As a result of a mandate by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Commission has contracted with the State Emergency Management Agency to prepare county-wide all-hazard mitigation plans. Initially, Cape Girardeau, Madison, Perry and St. Francois Counties were selected by SEMA for preparation of these plans. Ste. Genevieve County later applied for and received funding from SEMA to prepare that county-wide plan and subsequently contracted with the Commission to prepare this document. SEMA has now indicated that it will provide funding to prepare the plans for Iron and Bollinger Counties, and the Commission’s staff has prepared the applications to SEMA for both of these counties, and SEMA has funded both applications.
In past years, the Commission also contracted with the Local Emergency Planning Commission to prepare a hazardous materials response plan for the Region. The LEPC is working to implement the plan.
Hazard Mitigation Planning Committee Public Meetings
The first Madison County HMPC meeting for the 2010 update to the county HMP will be 12:00 p.m. May 3, 2010 at Black River Electric.
The first Ste. Genevieve County HMPC meeting for the 2010 update to the county HMP will be 12:00 p.m. May 4, 2010 at the Patke Room.
The first Iron County HMPC meeting for the 2010 update to the county HMP will be 1:00 p.m. May 6, 2010 at the Iron County Courthouse.
The Bollinger County HMPC meeting origianlly scheduled for 12:00 p.m. May 7, 2010 has been changed to May 14, 2010 at the Bollinger County Courthouse.
